About the HFCF
Hayward Firefighters Charitable Fund
The Hayward Firefighters Charitable Fund (HFCF) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization established and operated by the members of Hayward Firefighters Local 1909. Created as a way for Hayward firefighters to give back, the HFCF raises funds that directly support charities, youth programs, community organizations, and individuals throughout Hayward and the surrounding communities.
Every dollar raised reflects our commitment to serving our community both on and off the job.
Our Mission
The mission of the Hayward Firefighters Charitable Fund is to strengthen the Hayward community through charitable giving, youth development, public safety education, and community partnerships while reflecting the dedication, compassion, and service of the Hayward Firefighters.
How Is the HFCF Funded?
The Hayward Firefighters Charitable Fund is supported through a combination of member-run fundraising events and generous donations from businesses, community partners, and individuals.
Each year, Hayward Firefighters Local 1909 proudly hosts three signature fundraising events that generate more than 90% of the HFCF’s annual revenue:
- Steve Holt Memorial Charity Softball Tournament
- Hayward Firefighters “Smash for Cash” Charity Demolition Derby
- Hayward Firefighters Charity Golf Classic
These events are planned and operated almost entirely by volunteer members of Hayward Firefighters Local 1909, along with the support of our families, friends, sponsors, and community volunteers. Their dedication allows us to maximize the impact of every dollar raised.
How Are Funds Distributed?
The HFCF proudly supports a wide variety of charitable organizations, youth programs, and community initiatives throughout Hayward and the surrounding areas. Through grants and charitable donations, we partner with organizations that make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.
- Organizations that have received support from the HFCF include:
- Alisa Ann Ruch Burn Foundation

- Firefighters Burn Institute
- Hayward Rotary Club
- National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP)

- And many more deserving organizations and local programs.
As our fund continues to grow, so does our ability to invest in the people and organizations that help make our community stronger.
